Terms & Conditions

1. About us

Simple Stair Storage is a bespoke under-stair storage business operated by a sole trader based in Somerset, England. These terms and conditions govern all work carried out by Simple Stair Storage for clients. By accepting a quotation or paying a deposit, you agree to these terms.

2. Quotations

All quotations are provided free of charge following a site visit or receipt of accurate measurements. Quotations are valid for 7 days from the date of issue.

Prices are fixed for the scope of work described. Any changes to specification, materials, or dimensions after a quotation has been accepted may result in a revised price, which will be agreed in writing before work proceeds.

Any additional items requested on the day or during installation that fall outside the agreed scope of work will be charged at the following day rates, with a minimum charge of a half day:

  • Labour only (on-site): £250 per 8-hour day
  • Workshop rate: £350 per 8-hour day

3. Deposits and payment

All deposits are non-refundable. Payment may be made by bank transfer, cash, or card.

Payment is structured in two stages: a deposit of 50% of the total order value is required to confirm your order and commence manufacture; the remaining 50% is due on the day of installation, upon satisfactory completion of the work.

We reserve the right to suspend work if payments are not received on time.

4. Lead times and scheduling

Lead times are provided as estimates at the time of quotation and are subject to change. We will give reasonable notice of any significant delay.

Installation dates will be confirmed once the deposit has been received and materials have been ordered. We ask that the installation area is clear and accessible on the agreed date; any delays caused by the client may result in rescheduling charges.

If we are waiting on design decisions from you that delay progress on your project, we reserve the right to bring other jobs forward in the schedule. Your installation date will be rearranged once all outstanding decisions have been confirmed.

If a customer wishes to change an agreed installation date, we will do our best to arrange an alternative date that coincides with our installation and production schedule. Please be aware that rescheduling is subject to availability and cannot always be guaranteed at short notice.

If a customer chooses to cancel following a change of installation date, the deposit remains non-refundable regardless of the reason for cancellation.

5. Design and specification

All designs, drawings, plans, and specifications created by Simple Stair Storage remain the sole intellectual property of Simple Stair Storage at all times. This includes all concept designs, technical drawings, measured plans, and any other design documentation produced during the enquiry, design, or production process, whether or not a deposit has been paid or an order placed.

No design, drawing, or specification produced by Simple Stair Storage may be reproduced, copied, shared, or used by any third party — including other tradespeople, manufacturers, or contractors — without our express written permission. Any unauthorised replication or use of our designs will be considered an infringement of our intellectual property rights and will be pursued accordingly.

It is the client's responsibility to review and approve all specifications before production begins. Changes requested after production has started may incur additional charges.

6. Materials

We use high-quality materials sourced from reputable suppliers. Natural materials such as timber may exhibit natural variation in grain, colour, and texture — this is characteristic of the material and not a defect.

Where specific materials or finishes are requested, we will confirm availability and lead times before accepting the order.

7. Installation

Installation is carried out by Simple Stair Storage. We take care to protect your property during installation; however, we ask that fragile items and valuables are removed from the work area in advance.

Minor making-good is included where necessary. Redecoration is the client's responsibility unless otherwise agreed in writing.

8. Snagging and sign-off

On completion of installation, we will walk through the work with you. Any snagging items identified at this stage will be remedied promptly. Sign-off and final payment are expected on the day of installation.

Snagging items raised after sign-off will be addressed within a reasonable timeframe at no additional charge, provided they relate to workmanship or materials supplied by us.

9. Warranty

All under-stair storage units are covered against defects in workmanship and materials for a period of 12 months from the date of installation.

This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, accidental damage, water ingress, structural movement of the building, or modifications made by third parties.

The warranty is conditional upon receipt of full payment. If the final 50% balance is not paid on the day of installation, no warranty or guarantee applies to any part of the unit. This includes all joinery and any component of the fitted storage, regardless of whether that individual part appears unaffected.

Any reduction in the final payment — for any reason — will equally void the guarantee on any part of the unit. Where the final 50% has not been paid, any decision to honour the 12-month defects period remains entirely at our discretion.

10. Cancellations

If you wish to cancel an order after the deposit has been paid, the deposit is non-refundable. If cancellation occurs after materials have been ordered or production has begun, you may be liable for additional costs incurred up to the point of cancellation. We will provide a written breakdown of any such costs.

We reserve the right to cancel an order in exceptional circumstances; in this event, any deposit paid will be refunded in full.

11. Surveys and access

It is the client's responsibility to provide accurate measurements or to ensure suitable access is available for a site survey. Where measurements are provided by the client and prove to be inaccurate, any remedial work, additional materials, or return visits required as a result will be charged at our standard day rates.

We ask that the installation area is clear and accessible on the agreed date. Any delay caused by restricted access may result in rescheduling and additional charges.

The client is responsible for ensuring a suitable parking space is provided for our vehicle(s) at or immediately adjacent to the property on the day of installation. Where on-site parking is not available, any parking charges incurred will be passed on to the client.

Where assembly work is carried out in an area exposed to the elements, the client must provide a minimum working area of 3 metres by 3 metres for our own rainproof shelter, suitable for use as an assembly and working space. Failure to provide this space may result in the installation being rescheduled, and any costs associated with rescheduling will be the responsibility of the client.

12. Photography and portfolio use

We reserve the right to photograph completed work for use in our portfolio, website, and marketing materials. If you would prefer that photographs of your installation are not used publicly, please let us know in writing before the installation date and we will respect your wishes.

13. Complaints

If you are unhappy with any aspect of our work or service, please contact us in writing in the first instance. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to resolve it within 14 working days. We ask that complaints are raised before any third party is engaged to carry out remedial work, as we cannot accept liability for costs incurred without prior agreement.

14. Data protection

Any personal data you provide — including your name, address, email address, and telephone number — will be held and processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy and in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). We will not share your personal data with third parties except where necessary to fulfil your order.

15. Liability

Our liability to you is limited to the value of the contract. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of use or loss of earnings.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

16. Governing law

These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
